ITINERARY: “TRANSHUMANCE RIDE (NORTH)*”
* In May we do the NORTH TRASHUMANCE RIDE from Guadalupe to Navarredonda de Gredos, from the winter pastures, in the south, to the Mountains in the north. In October, we do SOUTH TRANSHUMANCE RIDE; the itinerary is the same, but from Navarredonda de Gredos to Guadalupe, from the summer pastures to the winter pastures.
Day 1 MADRID-GUADALUPE
Meeting point at Madrid Airport, transfer to Guadalupe. Short visit to the town and then welcome dinner where we learn about the ride and region on the map.
Day 2 GUADALUPE-ESTRECHO DE LA PEÑA
Distribution of horses. Riding through the Villuercas, cultural landscape exclusive of southern and central Spain.
Short afternoon through flat terrain to Estrecho de la Peña, night and dinner in rural hotel, time on the saddle 6 hours.
Day 3 ESTRECHO DE LA PEÑA-ESTRELLA
Departure after breakfast, we ride by the cattle trail to Zorita. Good trots and canters in the morning trough the Dehesa where cattle can be seen everywhere: local cows, sheep, goats and iberic pigs. Dinner and night at rural hotel. Time on the saddle 6 hours.
Day 4 ESTRELLA-PUENTE DEL ARZOBISPO
We will follow the greenway, an old railway built in the 20s that due to the Spanish Civil War was never finished. Along the greenway, we will see objects and buildings that remind us that there would have been a railway. During the ride we can enjoy the view over the impressive Villuercas landscape.
Dinner and night at rural hotel. Time on the saddle 6 hours.
Day 5 PUENTE DEL ARZOBISPO-NAVALCAN
Departure after breakfast, we will go through the vineyard in Cañamero, famous in Spain for good wines and olives gardens. Here the landscape changes, we can see Ruecas river canyons. We will follow the greenway.
Dinner and night at rural hotel. Time on the saddle 6 hours.
Day 6 NAVALCAN-LA VILLA DE MONBELTRÁN
This day is a short day from Cañamero to Guadalupe we will go through the Cañada Real.
Horses go back to Trujillo by track.
Evening to visit Guadalupe town and the Monastery. Dinner and night at Guadalupe Monastery Hotel.
Day 7 LA VILLA DE MONBELTRÁN-NAVARREDONDA DE GREDOS
After breakfast, departure from Guadalupe at 10 pm, on time for flights. All riders will be transferred at the same time, so if any rider needs to arrive Madrid before, all riders depart earlier or we can arrange transfer (at extra cost).
Day 8 NAVARREDONDA DE GREDOS-MADRID
*In May we do the transhumance ride from Guadalupe to Navarredonda de Gredos, from the winter pastures, in the south, to the Gredos mountains north. In October the itinerary is the same, but from Navarredonda de Gredos to Guadalupe.
*We can change the itineraries to improve the rides
